The idea of fusing Thomas Cole’s Voyage of Life with modern composition practice has captivated me for years. Four movements of solo-piano reflecting the seasons, moods and textures within his paintings.
Working alongside Ricardo Burt on his audio-visual Graduate project “Music to Make You Feel Something”, allowed the versatility of the piano to be both seen and heard. Combining Burt’s garments and my compositions, the black 1980’s arts movement is re-imagined in this collaboration.
Being the first in my family to learn an instrument, I feel free to interpret pieces in unorthodox ways. This unlocks moods and colours hidden by conventional practice.
